Ark Metrics for fostering and adoption

How fostering and adoption work in Ark Metrics: requests with compatibility details, PDF agreement, public catalogue, enquiries by email and donations.

This page is for three kinds of people: those who offer their home temporarily, those who want to adopt and those who want to help with a donation. Pick your door.

A temporary home works when both sides know what they are taking on

Fostering goes well when you know beforehand which animal is arriving and in what conditions; adoption, when the animal is easy to find and the enquiry reaches whoever has it. Ark Metrics puts both in order and turns each agreement into a record that does not get lost.

Three doors

If you offer your home

Requests with compatibility details. You know what the animal is like and how it gets on with others before deciding. Fewer surprises for everyone.

Your own filters. You set the conditions and only see what fits. Fostering on your terms.

Fostering agreement. A clear agreement, in PDF, for both sides. Peace of mind from day one.

If you want to adopt

Public catalogue. Every animal looking for a home, in one place and with no sign-up. Adopting starts with a quick look.

Search by proximity. Find those close to you. The family you are looking for, near you.

A page for each animal. With its photo and story, ready to share. A link that is easy to pass on.

Enquiry from the listing. You ask directly whoever is caring for it. No intermediaries.

If you want to donate

Public donation pages. You choose whom to support and how, with no registration. Each organisation explains what the funds are for.

From the report to the home, step by step

  1. An organisation requests fostering for an animal.
  2. A home that fits offers itself and they sign the agreement.
  3. When the animal is ready, it appears in the catalogue.
  4. A family finds it, asks and adopts it.

Examples of how it works

  • A family wants a companion and does not know where to start. They open the catalogue and write from the listing that interests them.
  • Someone can only foster for a few weeks. They set it in their filters and only see what fits.
  • A local shop wants to lend a hand. It appears in the collaborator directory.
  • An association is preparing its adoption day. It shares the catalogue and its donations with a poster.

When the animal is already part of the family

When an adoption ends, another story begins: registering the animal and keeping its paperwork up to date. That part is covered by Census Metrics, the municipal companion animal census tool within the Zoometrics suite. Ark accompanies the animal until it finds a family; Census takes over from there.

Next step

If you coordinate animals in a shelter or protection group, see how an association or shelter organises it; if you want to help on the street, there is the volunteers page; and the local government view is on local governments. You can also go back to the home page. To offer your home or resolve any doubt, write to us.

Other tools in the suite, in case you come across them: Meow Metrics (cat colonies), Wild Metrics (urban wildlife) and Silva Metrics (parks and gardens).

Frequently asked questions

How do I know whether an animal fits my home?

Each request describes the animal and how it gets along with other animals and with children. You set your filters and only see what meets them.

What does the fostering agreement cover?

The dates, conditions, equipment provided and the details of both parties, in a downloadable PDF.

Do I have to create an account to see animals up for adoption?

No. The catalogue is public and needs no registration.

How do I ask about an animal?

From its page. The enquiry reaches the responsible organisation by email, with no personal contact published.

Can I donate without registering?

Yes. Donation pages are public.

What happens when someone adopts?

The listing is marked as adopted and no longer appears among the animals looking for a home.

Where do my donations go?

To wherever the page you donate on says: Ark Metrics does not handle the payment, it links to the platform each person or organisation uses. Whoever manages the page explains what the funds are used for.
